Embroidered Linen Apron

For booking please visit out shop

With local experienced instructor and artist, Jill Wignall.

It’s the perfect time of year to learn to embroider on these beautiful linen aprons, all of that xmas cooking and baking, not to mention they’d make an amazing gift as they’re both chic and personal.

Aprons are handmade in Lancaster, 100% linen (except the webbing which is cotton) of a medium weight. With use the linen will soften more and begin to develop the beautiful character that it’s known for, we’ve pre-washed it so no need to fear it shrinking!

  • Skills Taught: Hand embroidery on linen

  • Experience Required: Zero

  • Supplies: Zero. We will provide a handmade (in Lancaster!) medium weight linen apron - if you would like extra aprons or require a special size please get in touch

  • Class Size: Max 8

Class runs from 10 - 1, refreshments provided.

More Information:

IMPORTANT: When booking online please include a contact email and phone number in case of last minute changes

If you would like us to let you know when we schedule this class again, please email!

Craft Night

Craft Night

Fantastic evening with lots of chatting, often cakes and wine! We'd like to say a lot of crafting happens but often the chatting takes over.

Everyone is welcome to bring a long a handcraft (though, there are times when people come empty handed to just socialise!!). No need to commit or join, however we do have a facebook group called "weird women making questionable stuff" where you can chat together and show off your work. Please note that men are also very welcome to join the group however we've grown to enjoy the name a lot!!

Craftnight is a great chance to learn new skills and get some crafting inspiration, don't worry if you're a complete beginner or never even picked up some wool.

Hope to see you there!

Other info:

Feel free to bring along your dinner if you're coming straight from work, or some sweets/drinks!

This is an informal group, it's very likely someone will be able to teach you a craft (such as knitting) or share a skill, but won't be able to spend hours of 1 on 1.

The shop is also open during this time, you will be able to make purchases as normal.

Embroidery on Knits

For booking please visit our shop

With local experience instructor and artist, Jill Wignall

Dreaming of embroidered sweaters? Socks? Mittens?!
This workshop with Jill Wignall, gives you the skills to embroider on woollen knits to make your own custom item.

  • Skills Taught: Hand embroidery on wool knits

  • Experience Required: Zero

  • Supplies: Please bring an item you’d like to embroider on. We recommend wool that is of a medium or heavy weight, and not elastic. Lightweight elastic knits can be used however they are difficult and very slow. Handmade or store bought are fine! Best items? Sweaters/cardigans.
If you're unsure just email and we can discuss it.

Also feel free to bring any wool/floss you’d like to use but we’ll also supply a range of beautiful colours.

  • Class Size: Max 8

Class runs from 10 - 1, refreshments provided.

Store opening!!

  • Middle Street Lancaster, England, LA1 1LE United Kingdom (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

On October 14th…. At 10 am

Freehold Yarn Co. is opening a brick and mortar store here in Lancaster! You’ll find us at Unit 9, Middle Street (super chic stone lofted building)...

We’ve been super busy behind the scenes organising some amazing new stock, finding a beautiful shop and of course, working on new patterns. This has included expanding our current lines, but Freehold Yarn Co. aims to be more than a traditional yarn store, we’ll have tempting items for everyone and will continue to build up stock based on your suggestions.

And if having a shop isn’t enough… We also have a studio/workshop space as well!

The studio space will offer workshops on various topics, both wool and non-wool based making. We’re working on a few great ideas now and there will be some announcements shortly.

On the day...

We'll have cakes and refreshments, also please feel free to bring along a hand craft!

Ethical Clothes and Textiles Event

Ethical Clothes and Textiles Event

Late notice but.... Freehold Yarn Co.  has been invited to run a pop up stall at the Sewing Cafe - Lancaster Ethical Clothes and Textiles Event to commemorate the Rana Plaza collapse where many factory workers lost their lives due to poor working conditions and an unsafe factory.

This is something close to our hearts, although we love to create clothing, we can't make everything so there is a duty to buy responsibly. Lately there has been a surge of visible mending which is absolutely charming, Sewing Cafe Lancaster run drop ins where they can assist, or completely repair items that would otherwise go to landfill (click here for more info). I (Amy) love to tell the story of the 200£ brand new silk dress that I got for 20£ as the seam had opened 1 cm at the zip, it only took 5 mins to repair and the dress makes a regular rotation in my wardrobe.

We will have our supply of yarns and notions, these have been curated to be organic and/or responsibly sourced, including yarns will be perfect for darning sweaters or socks that would otherwise be lost to the bin! We will also be showing off our Liberty Jane dress which uses organic cotton yarn and a small fabric skirt - I dare say most sewing folks will have enough fabric in their stash.

The event program:

- Pay as you feel cafe (lunch items + LOTS of cakes!)
- Clothing swap
- Information on the clothing industry
- Pop-up stalls
- Raffle
- Guided slavery tour around Lancaster ( at 10 am and 2 pm, book your place at   sewingcafelancaster@gmail.com)
- Sewing Workshop: peg dolls 12 to 1 pm
- Spinning wgeel with Pam Southernwood
- Tapestry art project: dress made out an amazing tapestry with found objects
- Local projects
- Films
- Table with fabrics and patterns and more!

See you there!
